Donal's story:
Having worked in Production and General Management roles working for others I decided that I might just try and work for myself.
So I began my search for a small business that I could buy and grow into something for our future.
In 2011 I found Signworx – a small business ready to walk into for us to put our own stamp on it and to see where we got to.
Signworx had already been well established in the Finn Valley area of Donegal as a signage provider and there was some business being done with trade customers nationally on the 3D lettering and Material sales.
During 2011 we could see that the business had outgrown its premises so in 2012 we moved the business into our current location and began to implement changes and invest in new equipment.
We also decided to move away from material supply and concentrate on lettering, signage and print.
The first machine we purchased was our laser machine which has allowed us to offer high quality acrylic lettering, Plaques, Engraving services and personalisation on a wide range of items.
We invested further in the quality of our lettering by building our own spray-booth and installing a modern paint mixing scheme giving us the capability to mix our own paints in-house. This has given us a major advantage over quality and service to our customers.
We added Small format digital print to our portfolio and that meant we could offer short-run business printing, wedding stationery and memorial print.
We then added a hotwire foam cutting machine for short term event signage but found that there was more opportunities for growth serving a range of sectors with this machine.
We have also broken into the Point of Sale Display unit market with a number of local companies looking for a unit to display their products in store that was more robust than cardboard.
